An interdisciplinary researcher and educator
I work across education, language and social inequality, using research to inform policy, practice and teaching.
I am a Research Fellow at Queen’s University Belfast, where I work on evidence synthesis in education. My research asks how social and linguistic inequalities shape identity, participation and access to opportunity, in classrooms, universities and workplaces.
I have designed and led qualitative, quantitative and mixed-methods studies, from structural equation modelling of large attitudinal datasets to participatory methods such as UNESCO Story Circles. I care about what happens after the findings: I write plain-language summaries and reports for policymakers, practitioners and community organisations.
I have taught linguistics, translation, interpreting, academic writing and research methods at the University of Essex, Northumbria University and Global Banking School (Oxford Brookes University partnership), and I supervise dissertations up to MA level. Before academia I worked as a court-accredited legal translator for the Ministry of Justice in Algeria.
